Hi Everyone
Wanted to give a heads up to check the Celtic Music Fest website which has a link above. It will be a wonderful festival. The leaves have not started to change quite yet but I think it will be earlier this year than normal. I will try to keep an update on the colors here and on FB. We have quite a bit of haze from the fires up north so it's hard to tell from the campground. I hope we will have stunning colors.

I apologize that is has been over 2 months since I have updated this site. It has been our busiest summer in 5 years.
We are praying for the safety of all of our Texas campers, friends and family who are being affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of our customers live right in the midst of the storm.
Today is GIANT HAPPY HOUR AND GIANT PINATA PARTY. It's a snack and dessert party. It usually takes about 15 tries to break open the pinata. This year it is Dori the fish. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
We have had our rainiest year so far. The trees are so lush and full, the flowers are stunning, and Denny is always mowing and trimming!!
Sadly, the bears are starving this year due to a late freeze in May which killed all the acorns. They are all over town foraging for food. Nature is tough and many of the bears and cubs will die in their dens this winter. AND, there is nothing we can do about it. They visit the park everyday and knock over the dumpster which is locked at night so nothing is scattered. It breaks my heart. Cherry took these photos the other night.

It's almost September. Wow, what a fast summer. We are full over Labor Day. We'll be having a singer playing John Denver, Elvis plus other western singers music on September 3rd. We will also be drawing for the Quilt and other prizes after donations have been made all summer for the Children's library. It has been a huge success and so far we are around $1500. Yay!
That's it for now. Busy day ahead.

It definitely feels like summer is here finally. Maybe 80? today. We have a full park and tent sites and cabin this weekend. Three groups have been here in the last few days: The Road Kill group, Bearly Home and Rolling Springs. We love groups and if you would like to reserve your group you may give us a call at 719-742-3233. Taking reservations for 2018.
Exciting news. Carol has finished the donation quilt that we will be doing this summer. It is wonderful and we will be raising money for the Children' s Library. It's a wonderful program and our library does so much for everyone, including our campers! Photo to come.
Have a good weekend. J

It is a sunny and wonderful outside today. The mountains are covered with snow. Everyone is loving the sound of the river which is still flowing at a fast rate. We are heading into our busy part of the season. If you are thinking of staying with us this summer, please give us a call when you have your plans, especially if you are coming in on a weekend.
Let's talk dogs. We do have the reputation of being a dog friendly park. 99% of our campers keep their dogs leashed and clean up after them.and keep them from barking incessantly. As we all know, there a few that can ruin it for everybody. I just read a review and the camper talked about loose dogs in our park over Memorial Day weekend. (I was totally unaware of this issue) A gentleman came in very upset about some loose dogs charging him down the road. He said the they were staying in the park and had been off leash in here too. (I was totally unaware of this issue) Luckily, the camper with these dogs was just walking by after I heard this and I talked to her about La Veta leash laws and keeping them leashed in the park. Apparently, according to the review, she let them off leash right after I talked to her. (Again, I didn't know that) Dogs off leash can kill a deer and you will be fined if that happens. They scare us when they coming charging. I will be keeping a closer eye on the pet situation. Please let Denny and I know if you are having a problem while staying with us. We will address the issue. We want you to feel safe and happy to be here. I am so sorry that the reviewer had this experience.

Hi Everybody - It is so beautiful here now with so much snow still on the mountains and our stream running fast. I wanted to let you know that we are full over Memorial Day Weekend. Lucy's RV Park does have openings for campers 32 ft and under. Her number is 719-742-3233. Sammie's number is 719-742-5435. We still have sites available for the season. When you reserve online, please know that I do respond to every request. It may be right away or it may be a couple of hours, but you will hear from me. For reservations you may go online by clicking on the link above or give us a call at 719-742-3233. Thank you and hope to see you this year. J :)

Hi Campers
I do believe there are a few of you traveling out there now. We've had a few drop ins. Unfortunately but fortunately we are having some snows coming in. We had about 3 inches last night and supposed to have a big storm this weekend. It is soooo beautiful and so needed. I think the mountains need several more feet to take care of us this summer.
It's going to be a fun season and there is so much happening. I received a new book today that has birding trails mapped out all over the area. So...if you are a birder, I can make you copies and you may hike the trails and see what birds are around. I also purchased a bird book for the office because we get some beautiful birds in the park.
Since it will be a quiet week I hope to get many of my new items finished up. I have that cough/cold crud but hopefully it doesn't keep me from doing anything.

April 20, 2017
Terry and I have been working on getting the office all spiffy and Denny and Mona are working on the outside projects. We officially open on Saturday, April 22. It's always fun to spring clean, move things around, and reorganize. Now I can start sewing and embroidering.
Wanted to let you know to check out the local and surrounding area events. Not only are there music, art and other special weekend events, there are many art classes given during the summer. Maybe you can take one while you are here. We have world famous artists in our town and they love to teach their mediums. The La Veta Trails group have been working very hard on opening up new areas for hiking. Please check out their link above and see what is available, no matter what level you are.
Getting a little rain today and tomorrow which we desperately need. The stream is always at its best this time of year. It roars.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Please call 719-742-3233 or email online reservations by clicking on link above. It's going to be a great summer in La Veta.

April 2, 2017
Hi everybody. We had about 10 " of snow on Saturday, today it is melting and the sun is out. Maybe another storm on Tuesday. Great moisture for this part of Colorado. I am back at Circle the Wagons and busy trying to get reorganized!
There are going to be tons of activities in La Veta and the area this summer. Please check out the local events link above and see if there is anything that interests you. It is updated every Sunday. Looking forward to the 2017 season and seeing all of you. J

March 30, 2017
Once again I want to thank everyone for their patience during the last 3 weeks.  We are on our way back to Circle the Wagons and I will be in the office tomorrow, Friday, March 31.  We will open on April 23.  J

March 23, 2017
Due to my brother entering hospice, I will not be taking any phone calls for several days.  Please email me at j@circlethewagonsrvpark.com.
I will reply to your requests by email.  Thank you for your patience during this difficult time for me.  J

March 16, 2017
We are experiencing some family health issues and unable to respond to your requests as quickly as we'd like. Please be patient and we'll get back to you when we can.
Also, it's easier for me to answer emails than phone calls.  J

Hello everyone. Just a few updates.  I am ready to be back in business.  Please feel free to call for information or to make reservations for the upcoming 2017 season.  We open May 1 - October 21, 2017. Remember you may make online reservations. We should have great internet this year in Brownsville so it should be easy to return phone calls and emails. Have a great holiday season.  J and Denny

October 31, 2016
Our last day of the season. Denny is putting the barriers up. The bathhouse will be closed down, outside furniture put inside, the clubhouse has been closed down as well as the cabin. We'll be in and out of the house for awhile, but hope to spend a couple of months in Brownsville.
It was an incredible year. Thank you for staying at Circle the Wagons this summer. We had some really fun events-Rubber Duck race and the Giant Pinata party-which will both happen again next year. We always travel to Progresso to find the perfect pinata!
Once again we will have art classes once a month taught by Carol Naylor. Maybe even an art show!! My quilting friend Carol will be here all season for the afternoon sewing/craft afternoon. Don't forget to bring your sewing machines!!
There will be 2 quilt retreats-May 5-7 is a UFO retreat and October 3-5 will be making a bag plus other handy items.
Lonnie Himes will be doing a professional square dance in August.
I'll keep up on the website during the winter, so please check back to see if anything new is happening. Also, the calendar link above will be updated so you can plan your trip around an event.
Take care, safe travels and look forward to seeing old faces and new faces in 2017!!! J,Denny, Meeko and Jumper

October 2, 2016
Whoo Hoo!! We survived our 4th year. Just finished with a very busy Oktoberfest weekend. Thank you all for coming to stay with us this year. It was our best year ever. But....it's not over yet. We are open until October 31. Peak colors are just beginning. Give us a call or just drop in. The weather is perfect for camping. October 3-4 is my Quilt Retreat. I have 8 ladies and Cindy Whitaker teaching the class. 2 more groups are coming in . It's also a good time to rent the cabin since it is now available.

August 28, 2016
Oh my goodness. What a fun month we have had. The huge Roaming Elks group is leaving today. They brough karoke and Elk races with them. It was a beautiful weekend for them and the rest of our campers. Many of our guest attended the local play "The Old People Are Revolting". A funny play. Huge groups around the campfire. Fall is in the air and it feels cozy to be out there in the evening. We had our first Duck Race down our stream last weekend. It was so fun and actually had an exciting finish. One would think we would be winding down this time of year, but September is getting busier each day. Labor Day is full and September 11 but many spaces still available.
I have added a new link above for the Colorado Directory.  It is a wonderful site that has information on anything you might want to do in Colorado.  Jeep trails, cabins, fishing, hiking, etc.  It's amazing. Please take time to check it out.
Let's talk oxygen!!! I have had 5 campers leave early from their vacations this summer due to oxygen issues. All of them had either had previous heart attacks or heart issues. One customer told me his doctor told him he wouldn't need oxygen in Colorado and this gentleman had heart issues. I recently had another customer who has a pacemaker and her doctor told her she wouldn't need oxygen because of the pacemaker. Apparently, that may not be true because she has been very out of breath. The other issue is if you are feeling seriously ill because of lack of oxygen, you may go to the emergency room but it is difficult for them because they are seeing you are on a short term basis. Please check with your doctor before coming to Colorado. Please be honest with them about the altitude height. 1000 feet can make a huge difference. We are at 7000 ft. Cuchara is 8500 If you don't know the altitude, don't hesitate to call the campground and they will be happy to tell you. Maybe you will only need it at night. Maybe you will only need it at certain altitudes. That is better than leaving early and have your family and your camp hostess worrying about you.

There is still plenty of time to come to our area. It is really cool and breezy today. That is nice but it makes me sleepy for some reason.
If you have called for reservations but we have been unable to get you in, please don't give up on us. September begins opening up on the weekends and it is a wonderful time to be here.

July 23, 2016
Waiting for a late check-in so getting caught up on FB and website. Very nice evening around the campfire with Ken singing. A good crowd came out and listened. Love it when we have kids in the park and watching them play and roast marshmallows. The park has been full several nights in a row and August is looking very busy. Please call for a reservation if you are thinking of coming in. I know it is really hot in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. We get a little warm in the afternoon but our mornings and evenings are wonderful.
Tomorrow is our 2nd annual Giant Pinata Party/Potluck. Denny and Dale found many fun items to fill it with. We also will have 8 prizes for the drawing. Hopefully the Pinata breaks easier than last year!!
The fish have been biting up at Bear and Blue Lake. Also at the Wayatoya lake in town. Haven't heard about the lakes lately.
We have some interesting activity going on under our front step. We have 2 Common Toads living there. Common Toads dig a hole below the frost line and hibernate for the winter. In late June, I see Mr. Toad coming out of the grass to our step. Later on he had dug a hole. Then came Mrs. Toad. (I'm hoping we'll see baby toads). Then a couple of days ago we see a baby bunny coming and going. I'm not sure if there is an illicit affair happening but it is a fun thing to see.
Since I began writing this post, I had to go rescue a camper who followed GPS down the road to nowhere! I got them turned around and safely back to the park and settled. GPS is terrible if you miss the Highway 12 turnoff. The main thing is to not turn on 1st or 2nd Street on CR 450. That's what GPS wants you to do. Just keep going on CR 450 and it will take you right into town.

It is a stunning morning here in Circle the Wagons. Pancake breakfast being served now for the Holiday Ramblers group. We will have our first Pot Luck this week to welcome our seasonals back and also for whoever is staying in the park. Denny, Dale, Mary and I are all busy getting ready for the busy July 4th holiday. We are full and we have several friends coming in to stay a few days. I'm in a manic sewing mode to have the shelves full of items. Our hot item this summer has been our Eagle spinner. Making my 3rd reorder today.
IMPORTANT: ONLY 3 SITES LEFT FOR THE OCTOBER 3-4 QUILT RETREAT. CALL TODAY TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT!!!!!!!!! Please. It will be a fun retreat.
Please check the 2 links above to see what is happening in our area and hopefully you can come and hang out. 719-742-3233

June 18, 2016
Summer has arrived. It's sunny and warm and beautiful in our area. The fawns have arrived but still being protected by their Mommies in the tall grasses. I hope to go and see some baby antelope today.
The park is full and there is a lot of energy. I love seeing the kids outside playing and running and sleeping in tents. We just had the Danish team of Race Across America drop in for showers and laundry. So far their rider is in the lead!!! I love when we have our interesting drop ins. We have had many groups in this month. The Colorado Cruisers are the group this weekend.

June 7, 2016
I am so excited. Good Sam's representatives are staying with us for a couple of days. They rate rv parks every year for the big travel catalog. When we bought the park in 2013 the rating was 6/8/7. Type of sites being first with all paved being the best. We are gravel. Restrooms/Showers the 2nd number and Visual Appearance/Environmental Quality third. 2016 - 8/10/9!!!! Denny works so hard at keeping the park immaculate and it has really paid off.

Jun. 10, 7:00pm. Cary Morin, Native Americana finger-style guitar, old school delta, folk, bluegrass, Americana fused into his own style. $15.00.   www.carymorin.com. At the Francisco Crossing.

Denny is mowing the park once again. It's very nice to be so green but the mowing happens often. He'll have the park looking spiffy for everyone coming in this weekend. The river is flowing trees are finally getting leaves, and we'll have a full park for the holiday. Camping life is good!!! Please click on the above links to see what is happening the entire season for both music/theater and other events.

May 13, 2013
It's a beautiful day in La Veta. I'm putting out a hummingbird feeder and some bird food. Denny tilled a patch in the front yard for a perennial garden. Still working on the greenhouse area to plant herbs. It took quite a hit this winter. The courtyard looks bright and pretty with freshly painted tables and umbrellas. I'm finishing up 2 small quilts for the Yuki and a bed in the cabin. First of Carol Naylor's art classes is this weekend. If you haven't tried one of her classes, please do. It's for beginners to experienced. I'll keep you posted when her next class will be. Happy Day everyone.
I hope you have clicked on the above link to see the exciting events in the area this year. There is a fresh energy in the area. It will be a great year to spend some time with us.

April 27, 2016
Many times when our campers arrive they would like their hair and nails done. Usually they are unable to get an appointment. Plan ahead. Here are the numbers of "The Salon, LTD"-719-742-3019 "A Taylor Made Haircut"-Taylor is a barber-719-742-3289.
Aly's is a restaurant that one always needs a reservation. Excellent place. Her number is 719-742-3742
Downtown is getting ready for the season. New this year is a flower shop. It looks like a new shop may be opening on the corner of Francisco and Main. We'll see. Charlie's has laid new flooring and reorganized the shelving. Looks wonderful. Bob's Deli is moving where the mexican food restaurant was and will be serving dinner in the evenings.
Farm to Table Bakery is going to have a few evening hours this summer. The Timbers in Cuchara will have it's fabulous menu again. Scot and Lauren are doing a wonderful job up there. I'm sure Sammi's will be having their famous fried chicken on Sunday. Sharon and Greg will be serving their breakfast sandwiches and lunch meals at Paradise Coffee. La Plaza in Walsenburg will be open once again. A short drive from La Veta but worth the trip.
Bottom line is, there should be plenty of places to eat this year.
We are planting a real garden this year in the ground. Let's hope my dream of having fresh veggies for all of you will come true. The greenhouse is looking rather pathetic due to the winds and snow at the moment but we do have the parts to repair it. It will be my herb garden greenhouse.
The snow should be completely gone by tomorrow in all the sunny areas. Officially open Saturday so I am scurrying around getting my info sheet, reservation cards, and items set up in the shop. Where has the time gone!! Have 30 new movies to add to our vast collection. There will be some for sale again this year for the great price of 2 for $1.
Denny has been so busy painting, laying carpet, cleaning up limbs and fighting with a woodpecker who is poking holes in one of the buildings. So far it is Woodpecker 5 Denny 0.
Time to scurry. See you all soon. Call 719-742-3233 or reserve online www.circlethewagonsrvpark.com

April 14, 2016
I HAVE 4 SPOTS OPEN FOR JULY 4.
We are awaiting a snow storm coming in this weekend. This might not sound good to a lot of you but for us it means more moisture for the summer. It also helps with the stream to keep running.
Our first campers start coming in the weekend of April 23.
Denny thinks he has picked up 10,000 branches!!
DD Wireless came out a couple of days ago and we had more branches cut down around the towers. This should keep our internet service very strong.

April 4, 2016
Counting down the weeks until we officially open on April 23. I was just browsing some of the sites of other venues in the area and this will be an exciting summer in La Veta. I'm wondering if I should just have another page added for Cuchara events and La Veta events. Cuchara has a really organized recreation group and Cuchara village events. Francisco Crossing will be featuring many music events. I heard the Town Park will be busy hosting music and fiber events and of course Art in the Park. On Saturday of Memorial Day weekend there will be a giant garage sale in the park with booths going for $10 each.
We hope to have a new surprise for everyone staying with us this summer. We will begin working on it in early May.
I plan on posting events on Thursday night while I'm riding the train to Topeka. Have to get my visit in with my kids and gkids and also a quick trip to see my 96 year old Mother. She continues to amaze us.
There are a few links below that you can check out and see many dates for events. I know several people have already booked some scenic train trips.

March 12, 2016
I'm busy this morning updating reservations and returning phone calls. We are in a park where I need to come to the clubhouse to do my computer work so I'm not as quick to return emails and phone calls. Thank you for your patience. We are heading back to La Veta on March 25 and should be back by April 1. Due to some high winds I believe there will by many branches to be cleared!. Denny will be finishing recarpeting the game room and building new book shelves. The remodeling of the Clubhouse kitchen was finished last October. We're excited for another year. I will be posting upcoming events in April so check back to see what is happening in the area this year. I'm sure there will be something for everyone.
Not sure if the May quilt retreat will be happening due to lack of interest but the deadline is April 15 so it is not cancelled yet. It is a Tuffet stool, Rag Rug and Embroidered bag class with all machines furnished. $300 with 6 meals
Carol Naylor will be providing painting classes once a month this year. We have a square dance in July. Quilt Retreat in October.
We'll see you soon.

January 1, 2016
Happy New Year to all of our camping guests. 2015 was a great year and 2016 is looking great too. Check back soon to see the list of Quilting Retreats, Art Classes and a Square Dance night. We've remodeled the Clubhouse kitchen, recarpeted the Game Room and Denny built new book shelves, and there will be a new Shuffleboard court. Please check out the Rates and Park Map site for our new prices. Looking forward to seeing you all next year. Jay, Denny,Meeko and Jumper.

November 1, 2015 - CLOSED FOR THE SEASON
Denny and I want to thank everyone who came to see us this season.   Looking forward to next year already.
Remember that we take reservations year around by calling 719-742-3233 or submit an online request here.

October 18, 2015
A little less than 2 weeks and we'll be closing for the season. The leaves are beginning to fall. It was a stunning fall that lasted about 3 weeks. There is still quite a bit of gold showing on the mountain sides. Some friends and I drove up to North Lake and Bear Lake last week and I am so glad we did. Just can't get enough of this area.
Denny and I want to thank everyone who came to see us this season. It was our best year yet. Denny and Dale are busy putting a new kitchen in the Clubhouse today so that may make it easier for our potlucks, for the groups and for the pancake breakfasts. They are doing the hard work, I only have to make some curtains.
Remember that we take reservations year around by calling 719-742-3233 or submit an online request here.

GPS ALERT: If you coming to La Veta from the West on Hwy 160, GPS has you turn on Co. Rd 450.  As you are approaching town, GPS will want you to turn on 2nd st. It is a dead end and there are signs that say that. Do not turn on 2nd street or 1st street as GPS may instruct you to.  Just stay on 450 and it will bring you into La Veta. You will stay on that road until you come to Main St. From there you will turn left and go approximately 3 blocks to 2nd street where you will turn left and come into the park.

September 13, 2015
Fall is in the air. Even though it was in the 80's today, it begins to cool off tomorrow. I was up in the mountains last weekend and there were a few aspens that had tinges of yellow leaves!
We had a busy weekend but the park will be quiet the next few days. We will be busy over the last weekend of the month and Oktoberfest weekend. Personally, I love this time of year. The sound of the leaves rustling with the breezes, the deer families running across the field, the cool mornings and evenings, and looking out for bears.
Still plenty of time to come to La Veta. We are open until October 31.

Ginny and Glen looking at the corn
at the VA Nursing Home

It's already feeling like fall in the area. Can be a little warm in the afternoon but wonderful mornings and evenings. The mosquitoes are also dissipating thank goodness. Had signs of a bear in the park this week. They haven't been around this year. Having little afternoon showers which has kept everything green. I have totally given up on the tomatoes but we do have some zucchinis and cucumbers that look good. Next year, no tomatoes for us!!
I had something exciting happen yesterday. I was taking my girlfriend out for a scenic drive. We drove down Pass Creek Rd which, by the way, is stunning with all the sunflowers along the side of the road. I made a wrong turn and we ended up heading toward the Upper Huerfano area. It was so beautiful and full of history with old mining buildings and a very old cemetery. We stopped to look at the river and when I got back in the Jeep, I looked at my rear view mirror and I saw a bobcat, no wait, it turned around and it was a mountain lion!!!!!! Was not able to get a photo because it all happened so quickly but it is something that I have wanted to see forever.
The donations for the Pathway to the VA Veterans Nursing Home Gardens are coming in. The support has been wonderful. I visited there today and met some of the residents outside in the garden area. It is a wonderful place.

The Quilt Retreat is filling up!!
If you are interested in attending my UFO Quilt Retreat in October, please give me a call at 719-989-0614 to get a spot. You can also reach me by email at jay@circlethewagonsrvpark.com. I have room for 10, maybe 11. The cost will be $100 which includes all meals and an experienced quilter to help us with issues. The dates are October 9, 10 and 11th. The retreat will begin at noon on Friday. RV campers will get $5 a night off of their site. We had a great time last year and it's a beautiful and cozy time to be in La Veta.

July 28, 2016
Yahoo!! We now have an upgraded wireless internet system in the park. It is faster and stronger and we are very happy that it was available to us. I can already tell it is faster.
Busy weekend in La Veta coming up. It's the La Veta Art Studio Tour on Friday from 10-4, Garden Tour on Saturday from 10-4. On Saturday you can also stop in and say hi to Ricky Tims at his Quilt Studio!
We had great fun at our "Giant Pinata Party". It took several swings until Geoff finally finished it off. Fun evening. Not sure if we will make it to Mexico this year for another Pinata.

July 16, 2015
Hello everyone. It's a nice day here in La Veta. Our mornings and evenings have been fabulous with the cool breezes. No one wants to leave and go back to hot weather!!
We are full this weekend with several bicyclists for the Stonewall Century Ride. We also have the Ark Valley RV group staying with us. There are many family gatherings too.
Check out my "Pathways to the Gardens Quilt" which I made to raise money for the local Veterans Nursing Home. We are going to raise money to build a cement path to the gardens so the residents can get to the gardens with their walkers, wheelchairs and canes safely. The winner will be drawn on Labor Day weekend.
We are upgrading our internet system to wireless. YEA!! From what we are hearing from others who have it, it should be a great asset to the park. I know there is nothing more frustrating than the internet being weak or off or whatever. Maybe Denny won't have to climb the pole in the park and reboot the router. I'll be glad not to have to climb under the desk and unplug numerous outlets to reboot. I'm not sure when it will be up and running but hopefully in a couple of weeks.

We had a great time last year and it's a beautiful and cozy time to be in La Veta.

July 2, 2015
The big weekend is here. The park is full. We have people from all over the country and Denny and I have friends from Indiana here for the weekend. Claire is doing her first Art in the Park show.
I've updated the upcoming events. The Fort Francisco Museum has a free event every Saturday. Please check out their website to see what might interest you. www.franciscofort.org
1. I have a block of the month project that will continue for 2 seasons. Even if you aren't a quilter, the blocks are small and I have tons of fabric that can be used for the blocks. There will be a sewing afternoon every week.
2. Carol Naylor has offered to come down from Colorado Springs and teach her Watercolor/Batik painting. It is so much fun and you will have a painting of your own at the end of the day. She will do this once a month for the summer. Next class is July 20 and 21 at 9 am. They will be 2 four hour sessions for $45.
3. Balance and Strengthening exercises will begin on Thursday, July 2 at 9 am. Sara Hoffman has generously offered to do this class. The classes will be one day a week.
4. We will have a quilt retreat the 2nd weekend of October beginning at noon on that Friday and through Sunday. More info to come.

June 17, 2015
Another beautiful sunny morning. We had quite the thunderstorm last night and Meeko wasn't happy at all. I'm not either because he wakes us up when he is scared.
Yesterday several of us did Carol Naylor's Watercolor/Batik class. Everyone was a new artist except for 2 of us. It was an educational experience of working with wax and watercolors. The next class will be on July 20 and 21st. Come down and spend the night and join us.
The green house is doing well. We've transplanted the cucumber and zucchini's outside but they don't look too happy about it. My potatoes aren't doing anything, but the tomatoes, herbs, cabbage, peppers and onions look great. Remember if you are here during the harvest, you may come in and pick whatever you would like for your meal that day.

June 4, 2015
It is so beautiful here this morning. The sun is shining and warm, a breeze blowing through the trees, the river is running and I just finished planting flowers. Denny is busy mowing and Dale is painting on the cabin.
It will be a busy weekend. The Rainbows are coming in for 3 nights and some seasonals will be arriving.
The Fusible Applique workshop was a success. I had 9 ladies for 3 days and we all were able to learn how to do this process. I love love my moose although it still has some work left.
I am working on a quilt to begin a donation project for our local VA nursing home. My friend Ginny has volunteered there for 7 years on a garden project. We are hoping to donate enough funds to build a cement path so the veterans will be able to tend the garden in their wheelchairs or using their walkers. I'm very excited about this mission and hope the quilt is done in a couple of weeks. I'll keep you posted.

I will be learning how to sew this moose quilt next weekend. We have 10 ladies doing the Applique' Work Shop on Friday through Sunday.
I realized last night that my link to the Fort Francisco Theater was wrong and it is now fixed. It's a great way to purchase tickets for the plays that will be happening this summer. "Quilters" is the first production. It's a musical. The plays usually are sell outs so get your tickets early. We have tremendous talent in our little town.
Memorial Day weekend was busy even though the weather was iffy. It was graduation and 2 weddings in the area. We also had the Ark Valley RV group stay with us. They are from the Pueblo area.
Our weather doesn't have the dangerous floods as other parts of Colorado and the country. I haven't seen so much snow in the mountains in years!!
Just a heads up regarding reservations at our park and other campgrounds. Please call and cancel if you aren't able to come. We weren't completely full this weekend but our river sites were completely reserved and I had 2 no shows. I could have let other campers use those sites and instead they sat empty.
The season has begun and we are looking forward to seeing everyone this summer. Yesterday we had a bicyclist stay with us as he is riding across country. It was fun listening about his adventure so far.

We have many new activities coming up this summer in the rv park. If you are coming in for a few days, a week, or a month bring your sewing machines.

May 17, 2015
Just finished up the pancake breakfast for the Weekend Warriors. They spent the weekend with us. It was chilly so Denny kept the fire going in the clubhouse so they would be warm for their activities.
The trees are finally beginning to have leaves and the grass is soo green. I'm going to start some flower seeds in the green house today. The wind is wreaking a little havoc on the panels of the green house. Hopefully it will hold up this summer! We have some tomato plants doing well right now but haven't started any seedlings of other veggies yet.
As you can see in the photo, our deer have been coming to visit the park. This was a family of 9. I'm wondering if they are all related. Haven't seen any bears yet, but they have come out of hibernation. We'll see if any come into the park this summer. We only had 1 baby cub last year that the campers were able to get a photo.

April 22, 2015
I am so excited. Today a member of the Trails Committee came in and left me a notebook with tons of information about the area. It includes hiking trails, day trips, astronomy events, etc. When you check in, we can talk about what you might like to do in the area and I can give better information.
We officially open tomorrow with the first of the Colorado Cruisers coming in for the weekend. I am finally in the office and shop getting it ready. Denny and Dale will be the hosts as I will be away for a couple of days. We feel prepared for the season although I am going through my usual nervousness about getting everything done, but...I always manage to. I have been up late sewing and embroidering sweatshirts.
I've added some more events so please check out the upcoming events.

April 8, 2015
The winds have died down and Denny will return to sprucing up the sites around the park. I don't mind the winds as long as I can stay inside!! It's beautiful today. This is our 3rd year owning Circle the Wagons and we are getting some remodeling projects done inside the house and the office. Denny put a fresh coat of yellow paint on the back wall of the office so that brightens it up. I'm also going to make some new curtains out of some fun Route 66 fabric. Fun new items will also be available in the Bird's nest.
I'm adding some events that will be happening in the area this summer, so please take a look at the upcoming events section as you scroll down.
Some of you may already be aware of this news but Grandote Peaks Golf Course will not be open this year. Of course we are very disappointed but thankfully there are 4 courses that can still some fun golf outings. Walsenburg Golf Club: 9 holes; Trinidad Golf Course 9 holes; Cattails in Alamosa 18 holes; Colorado City Golf Course 18 holes.
There are openings for Carol Naylors Art Retreat May 9-10. The bird painting you see is a sample of her technique. It's Watercolor/Batik which combines watercolors and wax. No experience needed and she provides everything. $45 a day. You may do 1 day or both.

We like to stay positive even with disappointments and there are many wonderful activities in our beautiful part of Colorado.

April 2, 2015
Oh my, Denny and I are so busy getting the park spruced up for the season. Denny is raking limbs and smoothing out sites. I am getting the office set up and the shop organized. We purchased 30 movies so I reorganized the DVD shelf and also purged quite a few movies. I will have them for sale this summer at 2 for $1.
I wanted to update some information regarding the Toni Whitney wall hanging retreat on May 29-31. If you have a project that is applique, that would apply to this retreat as well. If you are doing a Toni Whitney kit, you may purchase at your local quilt store or online and the fabric needed for the wall hanging. Barbara Rowe will be our instructor and she will help us with the technique and any other questions we have. All you need to bring is you machine and accessories. I will furnish irons, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. The cost will be $40. It will be a fun weekend and a good time to finish an applique project.
For reservations please call: 719-742-3233 or make an online request by clicking here.
We have some new things happening this coming year.
       1. Big R in La Veta now has propane available 7 days a week
       2. We are putting up a greenhouse. I thought it would be fun for our seasonals to grow some veggies this summer.
       3. We will have 2 Quilt Retreats.  May 29-30. Toni Whitney Design class.    October 10-12  Bring a block pattern of your choice to the retreat and we will make a quilt out of everyone's block designs.
      4. Carol Naylor is doing a work shop on May 9-10 at Circle the Wagons. The cost is $45 per day. She furnishes everything and all you need to bring is a photo of what you would  like to watercolor/batik. You may do a 1 day class or both days.

March 26, 2015
Just 2 more days and we'll be back in La Veta and Circle the Wagons. It has been a crazy 5 months. We've been separated from Meeko and Jumper more than we have been with them. We are all anxious to be back home and together. Dale and Buddy will be heading our way soon to help get the park ready for our first group which is coming in on April 24. Our minds are racing about all we have to do. Another friend will be coming out to help with the building of the greenhouse. It is a kit but he has put one up before so he'll know the ins and outs. I can't wait to plant some herbs, tomatoes, broccoli and lettuce.
For reservations please call: 719-742-3233 jay@circlethewagonsrvpark.com

I hope this finds everyone having a good holiday season and looking forward to the New Year. I can't believe that we are heading into our 3rd year of owning Circle the Wagons RV Park. It has been a wonderful business for us and what makes it wonderful is our clientele. Thank you all for being such gracious campers.

Only a little over a week left before we close for the season. Still have a few campers dropping in during their travels. Denny has been busy getting the outside work done. Fencing around the trees, trimming, and closing up the cabin. We have a tree trimmer coming in to top off the tops of some of the trees and another man coming in to fix one of the water taps. I'm still making micro bowl holders, several orders left to fill. We are very grateful to all of the great campers we had stay in our park this summer. October 9, 2014
The park is winding down after a really great October weekend. The weather was stunning.
We had 3 groups in the park. I even had a chance to learn a new art technique called watercolor batik. Carol Naylor brought a group in and taught class for 2 days in the Clubhouse. The bird is what I was able to do. She will be doing a class here next year so let me know if you are interested. It's really a technique that anyone can do because you trace the object that you are going to paint.
I was able to do a little outing and saw some stunning views of the fall colors. It is just past peak but still very beautiful.
Just for your information as of now there will be 2 quilt retreats and an art retreat here at the park. I will be posting the dates for the quilt retreats soon so campers can plan ahead. I only have room for 10.
It's not too late to come and visit La Veta. Our cabin is available to rent for $50 a night. Includes full kitchen, bathroom, dish tv and wireless. Come visit before October 31st.

October 4, 2014
It's Oktoberfest Day. The park is full, the town is full and the weather is perfect. Next year if you want to come and stay at the park for the Oktoberfest, get your reservations in early. It's really a fun day. Vendors, music, car show, etc.
We are winding down for the year but there are still plenty of days to come for a visit.
Next weekend is the Bear Fair IV from 10 am - 2 pm in Cuchara. Pumpkin decorating, cupcake decorating, sand art and much more. Cuchara will be full of activities for kids of all ages. The Cuchara Bear will also be making an appearance.
We will close for the season on October 31. We have enjoyed a super summer with super campers. I am taking reservations for next year during the off season.
I am planning on 2 Quilt Retreats next year so stay tuned for the dates.

Photos from the quilt retreat.  #1 is the group, #2 is eating pancakes in the courtyard, #3 you can see us hard at work

September 22, 2014
First, the colors changing update. There is now a large group of yellow aspens on the West Peak. Just talked to someone in Creede and they say it is beautiful there.    So...it is a good time to plan on coming to see the colors.
This past weekend was our first quilt retreat and I must say it was a huge success. We had 9 quilters including myself. 1 from Arkansas, 2 from Kansas, 1 from Texas, 2 from Pueblo and 2 from Colorado Springs. It was a great group of women all full of ideas and knowledge. Personally I learned how to applique which is a new technique for me. Carolyn made her first jellyroll quilt. Sherry made a quilt using 4 different difficult designs. Carol finished a project and helped several with issues. Anita had every gadget known to woman for the quilter. Arlene made tiny 1" blocks and triangles. Dawn did at least 100 projects (that is an exaggeration but she did accomplish a lot) and she demonstrated how to make pillowcases. Robin was so fantastic helping all of us and showing us techniques. Carl and Konnie, our friends from Topeka, were our chefs and fed us so many wonderful meals including prime rib and smoked ribs and homegrown apple crisp. Even the hubbies had a fun weekend. Oh my.
Arlene and I discussed this idea last June and it was so exciting to see the weekend actually come together and happen. Our plan for next year is to have one in October and I will have what I will call a sewing weekend in June or July. Nothing fancy, just that we will set up the clubhouse with whoever wants to spend the weekend and sew. I'll post dates in the near future.
For the first day of fall it is quite wonderful here. Breezy, overcast. I love hearing the leaves rustling. It's a great time to come to Circle the Wagons. You get your pick of sites. As of now we are full for Oktoberfest but I do have a waiting list.
That's it for now.

September 18, 2014
TREE COLORS CHANGING UPDATE.  It's beginning to happen but I'm not sure when peak time will be. It's pretty yellow in the San Juans past Del Norte.  Just a little bit happening on the west side of the Sangre de Cristos. So you may start making your plans. It is definitely happening further west and north of us.

September 17, 2014
TREE REPORT.  West of us the trees our changing.  North Pass  Monarch Pass.   I am going to South Fork and will update tomorrow night.

September 9, 2014
We have had a traumatic couple of days watching our little fawns. They are stuck in the field across from the park because they can't jump the fence. Their mother jumps back and forth and tries to get them to follow her over. They will back up and make a run for it but they hit the fence. We feel helpless.

The orange flowers have been so beautiful in my flower pots. I wish I could remember what they are called. The sky had a very strange and sensual cloud formation this morning. We did have a little rain shower and a lot of wind out of the system. I love hearing the wind blow through our cottonwoods.
We have a busy park this week. The Gray Wolves RV Group are here for 4 days. We also have quite a few campers dropping in for a night. Last night we had a world champion motocross racer in the park.
I'm getting excited about my quilt retreat the weekend of September 19-21. If you were unable to attend this year, I plan on hosting 2 retreats next year - one in May and one in October.
I still have room for camping for the Celtic Festival which is held September 25-28.
We now have our cabin available to rent by the night or week until the end of October. $50 a night which includes full kitchen, full bath, dish tv, wireless, linens and dishes.  Call us and reserve it for a quick weekend getaway.

August 25, 2014
This month has gotten away from me. This has been a wonderful month. Great groups and great rver's coming in and out. Spending the next few days getting myself organized and ready for the next couple of weekends when the park is very busy. Going to experience a couple of outings this week so I can tell our campers about them from first hand experience. Tomorrow I am going to Hooper Pool which is by Alamosa. I hear it is a wonderful place to go and soak in the warm spring waters. On Wednesday I am going to the top of Trinchera Peak by way of a Jeep. I have always wanted to go up there so looking forward to that. I hope to make up a little booklet next year outlining some day outings.
It has felt like fall here already. The Texans, Kansans and Oklahomans are loving the temperatures.
There are still a few events happening in the area. I will be keep an eye on the changing of the trees. I heard it could happen earlier this year due to the increased moisture. It is a sight to behold.
Fall is a great time to be in La Veta!!! Come and stay with us and enjoy the fall in Colorado.

It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in La Veta. A slight breeze and the sound of the river, 2 of my favorite sounds.
Just finished up a pancake breakfast for the Ute Bobcats. Did you know that we offer a pancake breakfast with sausage, juice and coffee when you come in with your group?? We've had FCRV and MCRV and Sam's groups from all over in the park this summer.

Can you believe it is almost August!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where has the summer gone?????? I know, it's been at the Circle the Wagons RV Park. What a great month we have had. Lots of great people coming in. Lots of great groups coming in. A very interesting couple came in today. They are from Georgia and have gone all over including Alaska doing a GeoCash. How cool is that. There apparently is a GeoCash around here somewhere. I have never done that but it sounds fun.
The Quilt Retreat was full but I did have 1 cancellation so.....if you really, really want to come please give me a call at 719-742-3233.
Has been a rainy week but let me tell you, Grandote Peaks is in wonderful shape. If you want to appreciate the beauty of the course, please come on down and play a couple of rounds. It's worth every penny.
As you can see, there aren't many upcoming events in August. I will check out the paper and check with other residents and see if I am missing anything, so please check the website in a couple of days to see if there is anything happening. Many of the campers have been taking day trips to Bishops Castle, the Sand Dunes, Antonito and taking the trolley ride in Trinidad. Many have also attended the train concerts by way of driving to Fort Garland.
We are having a potluck/bingo night on August 11 here in the park.
That's it for now. Need to have my nightly fix of Longmire.

It's a beautiful Sunday morning, pancakes on the griddle for the Ark Valley group who will be leaving today and I'm trying to get the laundry caught up and get the office ready to open for the day. It's been a busy week here at Circle the Wagons. We had back to back to back groups in the park which is always fun. Everyone is enjoying the propane fire pit and there have been several fire rings this week with music provided by several campers. There have been several rains so the park is greening back up again which I am very happy about. My flowers are happy too! Can't believe we are almost to the end of our 3rd month of the season. It has been a great summer and great people. We had a boy scout group drop in last night with 14 tents to set up. I also had a couple from Germany drop in who had rented their camper in Denver and are on a big tour of the country. Another little family came in with their first camper and they are on their way to California to get one of their kids enrolled in college. We also have a family in who are spreading a relative's ashes in the area, (not in the campground :)). Only 1 little bear cub in the park once this year. Everyone came out of their campers to get a photo. I think the bears have had plenty to eat in the mountains this year and haven't had the need to come in to town as much. We're playing golf this afternoon and Grandote Peaks is in really nice shape this year. If you have a chance, come on down and play a round. Next weekend, July 26, is Fort Francisco Days. This year they are focusing on the mining heritage of this area. The Melodrama "The Treasure of Shiver River" is being performed from July 23-26. Many of you know we have a very talented community and I'm sure the melodrama will be wonderful. The museum has been putting on fantastic weekend demonstrations this summer. That's it for now. The open sign is on and the phone is ringing.

Hope everyone had a Happy 4th of July.  It was really wonderful here. Campground was full. A little rain. Some very interesting people came through. Circle the Wagons was well represented in the parade in La Veta on Saturday. One of our campers has a big truck that we were able to put flags on the sides and it also played patriotic music. We had kids from the campground in the back throwing candy. Dale and Buddy the wonder dog drove our golf cart and threw dog bones.  It was very fun.  My girlfriend Linda was here from Kansas for Art in the Park. We had a lovely spot this year and it was very enjoyable sitting and visiting with customers yesterday afternoon.
We had one couple who made our park their first stop on a year long adventure tent camping. They rented their home in Boulder for the year and off they go. Another tent camping couple is here from Germany and are on a 4 month camping adventure. Last night a motorhome came with a group on a mission to try and get 75 foster children adopted during the trip.  They are driving 7000 miles.  The mission is called www.ultimatewish.org  It's a very worthy cause and we were happy to have met them. One of them was a magician and he did tricks during the pancake breakfast.
We are about done with our major projects with Yuky being next getting a bright paint job.  Remember, we have 2 campers for rent on site.  Yuky for $35 a night and Baby Camper for $30 a night.
July is packed with many events. The museum is hosting the Native American Celebration on July 12.  The melodrama "The Treasure of Shiver River" is performed 5 times beginning July 24.  Many of you may know that La Veta is filled with talented people and the melodramas are always great fun. Tickets may be purchased online at www.lavetatheaterweb.org  $15.  July 26 is Fort Francisco Days celebrating our Mining Heritage.
That is all the news for now. Come and see us sometime this summer.

June 19, 2014

Oh my goodness. Already a crazy morning at Circle the Wagons. I'm calling people that I had already talked to and didn't remember. Does owning an rv park cause brain damage??? I think so. Anyway just wanted to update you on a few things going on.

First: If you can, you must come to La Veta and watch the performance of "Always Patsy Cline". We saw it last night and it was fabulous. Trudy Price has the voice range of Patsy and was wonderful. Peggy Hoobler is hysterical playing "Louise", a huge fan of Patsy's. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased online at www.lavetatheaterweb.org. Dates are June 20-21 and June 27-30.The Next Door Deli has finished their remodeling and are now open for business. They have a delicious menu and are now staying open until6 pm. From 3-6 they are serving wine, beer, soft drinks and tapas, which are like appetizers. They have moved their dining area into the corner building on Francisco which is now called Francisco Crossing. Please look at the Upcoming Events for programs happening at the Crossing.

We have been very busy at the park. Had 4 groups in last week. Our seasonals are beginning to arrive. Our friend Mary has arrived and she and Dale will be a huge help to us during the summer.  The weather has been windy but warm. We may have a chance of some rain coming through next week which we hope will happen. We've been lucky to have a flowing stream for several weeks now.  No bears have appeared so far and I think the deer are having their babies and we should see some fawns soon.

Just a couple of tidbits to talk about.
#1.  Had dinner at the Timbers in Cuchara this week and it was delicious.  You must have the Cheesecake with Chocolate Gnach for dessert.
#2. Played the back nine at Grandote Peaks and was very happy to see so much grass and nice greens. The greens were slow but filled in. The rough is high right now and the fairways are pretty nice. Only one green was really sandy and that was 17. I'll keep you posted if I get to play the front nine anytime soon.
#3. The Bakery has reopened under new ownership and is open Thursday-Sunday from 6:30 am to 3 pm. I am hearing good reports on the food.
#4. The Next Door Deli is remodeling and will be open soon with more seating and a will also be serving wine and beer.
#5. Our local hardware store had closed down but Big R is coming to town and we think it will be open in July. We will be very happy about that because we have many trips to Walsenburg and Pueblo for bulding supplies.
I have 1-30 amp space available for the July 4th weekend, so please give me a call if you have been thinking of coming that weekend.
My Micro Bowl holders have been selling like hotcakes and so have my RV table size place mats. I will making several more in the next couple of days to refill my shelves. We now have ICE available at the campground for $1.50 a bag. We also have some camping supplies. We also have 2 portable fire pits we rent so you may have a safe fire at your campsite. We have wood available for them.
We have 4 groups coming in next week in a span of 6 days. I hope we have nice weather for them.
Please take a look at the Upcoming Events to see what is happening in our area. We also have fishing, horseback riding, hiking and golf in the area.

I can't believe we have already finished our first month of the camping season!  It was a great month and we have been able to get many projects done. It's a beautiful day but a little windy.  The river is still running high and is wonderful to listen to.
Be sure and get your tickets for the Cuchara Country Fest.  www.cucharacountrymusicfest.com is the website for tickets. "Always Patsy" will be performed on June 20-21, June 27-30. I promise you won't want to miss this play.  Trudy Price is playing Patsy and she has a fabulous voice.
Did you know that there are several day trips with Circle the Wagons being your home base.  The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs in New Mexico; Taos, NM; Red River, NM; Bishops Castle, CO; and Crestone, CO to name a few of the places that are fun to visit.
It has been raining almost everyday and the park is so green and the trees are full of leaves. This does mean that Denny mows a lot.  Our new trees along the fenceline are also coming along nicely. Maybe this will be the year of "no drought".  Could that be!!!.
I haven't played Grandote Peaks yet but I hear it is in good shape.  Hopefully I'll get out next week and I'll report back.
For reservations please call 719-742-3233 or email me at j@circlethewagonsrvpark.com for reservations. I do return calls and I do answer emails.

We've had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We only had 5 empty sites. I thought we might have more cancellations but RVer's are a hearty bunch. Everyone has had a great time with their activities.  There have been fishing outings, sightseeing outings, and we had the Ark Valley group in also.  It was intermittently cold, sunny, windy, warm, wet, dry, etc.  The cool thing is listening to the river. It is very high and you can hear it running throughout the park. We had many first timers in the park. It is surprising to hear how many people have never heard of La Veta even though they live in Colorado.
It has been fun sprucing up Baby Camper. I think we have decided we have painted enough varieties of colors! Yuky is next on the list to be painted and then we'll done with that project.

Email sent to 2013 park visitors on April 17, 2014
Hi Everyone,
I am sending out this email to update you on what is happening at Circle the Wagons RV Park this summer. First off we have a new logo which we love. We purchased an embroidery machine this winter so I have embroidered some sweatshirts for those chilly nights. Secondly, we have added 2 more 50 amp sites along the river. Thirdly, we will have the little campers that we rent in a permanent spot this year. You won't see Denny moving them all around the park this year. We have had a couple of snows in the last 2 weeks and we hope for a few more. We really don't want to have another drought this year.
Please feel free to call @ 719-742-3233 or email me atj@circlethewagonsrvpark.com.  I'm updating the website now on a weekly basis. There are many events for the summer and they are listed on the website www.circlethewagonsrvpark.com.
I am hosting a UFO Quilt Retreat on the weekend of September 19-21. If you are a quilter and would like to be part of the retreat, please give me a call. I have room for 10 and right now I have 8 spots left. Included in the price of $100 are 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 2 dinners. There will also be a fun goodie bag.  Discount on RV sites for $25 a night.
Thanks for coming to the park in 2013 and we hope to see you in 2014!

Jay, Denny, Meeko and Jumper
