DID YOU KNOW? Tidbits of local knowledge

  • Did you know that you can go to the movies at the Fox Theatre in Walsenburg for $5 a person? Denny, Mitzi, Don and I went to see "42" Saturday. We paid $10 for the 2 of us plus $7.50 for a box of popcorn, a pop, Starburst, and 4 tootsie pops. Where else can you do all of that for $17.50. And...."42" was an excellent movie. It's also a very quaint movie theatre that actually still opens the curtains to see the screen and you can sit in the balcony.
  • Did you know that on top of Old La Veta Pass, that there is a little town that some local people have rejuvenated. It's worth the short drive to get there and is beautiful to hike around. It's called Uptop. They will be having 3 special events this summer so I will post the dates when I receive them.
  • Did you know that if you drive over La Veta Pass and turn right on Hwy 17 by Alamosa and then look for the sign to "Crestone", that you will enter a really interesting area.  There are temples, a monastery, a rugged mountain range and really interesting people.
  • Did you know that a world famous quilter lives here and he has several quilting retreats a year. I went to one last fall and have been hooked on quilting ever since.
  • Did you know that the company that manufactures Suzanne Somers beauty products is right here in La Veta?? I just put on Chae' Organics Made in the Shade tanning serum. Since I am not outside much right now, I thought I would try her product. Love it and it is all natural.
